New York Times columnist Paul Krugman recently called Newt Gingrich “the stupid man’s idea of what a smart person should sound like.’’ This echoes Michael Kinsley’s famous observation that Al Gore was an older person’s idea of what a young person should be, and that Bill Clinton was a young person’s idea of what an old person is like. Once you launch into these little word equations it’s hard to stop.
