As we wind down from celebrating the Academy Awards and the wonderful works of film from the past year, we're excited to commemorate something really remarkable: the achievements of women in changing our nation.

Airing on PBS tomorrow, MAKERS: Women Who Make America tells the remarkable story of the most sweeping social revolution in American history, as women have asserted their rights to a full and fair share of political power, economic opportunity, and personal autonomy.

Make a DIY Oscars statue in minutes using a Ken doll & some paint.

No Oscars party is complete with its own awards statue, and as we get ready for our annual #OscarUp tomorrow at 40Berkeley, we decided to create this DIY version of the iconic golden guy — using a Ken doll and some spray paint — in just a few minutes. Here's how we did it.

Maker Moment: An interview with
Aubrie Pagano of Bow & Drape

bow-and-drape.jpg Ever browse the racks and wish you could change the color of that dress, or the neckline on another? Aubrie Pagano feels your pain and came up with a chic solution. With her company, Bow & Drape, you can choose from a variety of garments and styles and completely customize them, from the hue to the hemline and everything in between.

Since we can't think of anyone more stylish than this lady, we invited her to be our very own red carpet "Kelly" at the 4th Annual #OscarUp this Sunday. Aubrie and our "Ross," Jeff Lehens of DressCode Boston, will be providing the arrival blow-by-blow, asking "who are you wearing?" and handing out the top honors for our Best Dressed Contest.

While you prepare rub well-dressed shoulders with Aubrie on Sunday, she's kindly answered our Maker Moment questions:

A finished "hacker junk" mosaic by artist/arts educator Melissa Glick.

If this winter has your kids climbing the walls and you're looking to direct their energy into more creative pursuits, send them over to the Arts at the Armory in Somerville this week, where they'll learn to design various art projects from discarded computer parts and other e-waste in daily "Hacker Junk" classes.

The series of classes, which start tomorrow in two sessions — one for 8 to 12 year olds (three classes) and one for 13 to 18 year olds (four classes) — are taught by Melissa Glick, a local arts educator who began making art from mechanical trash growing up as the child of a Raytheon employee.

Coursera.org offers real lectures from top universities for free.

Periodically, I think about going back to school to pursue a Master's degree. The subject matter varies — at first it was graphic design, then it was an MBA, and recently I've been fantasizing about a degree in gastronomy. Besides my indecision, a formal advanced education is time-consuming and expensive (plus, I have enough student loans from undergrad, thankyouverymuch). So what's a busy, cash-strapped lover of learning to do? Luckily, there are local and national online resources for those who want to upgrade their education for free!

The T is closing at 3 p.m. today and Governor Patrick is closing the roadways starting at 4, but breaking out your snow boots and playing in the snow a pied this weekend is totally encouraged.

Two "competing" Somerville flash mobs invite you to extract the art from this state of emergency with organized events tomorrow afternoon in two of Somerville's most popular squares. Let the battle of the snowman-army-building commence!
