If, like a good New Englander, you're abandoning the city this weekend in search of apple picking, hot cider doughnuts, and caramel apples, consider adding a legendary Lexington farm stand to your itinerary for a chance to pick up some free DIY skills along with your autumnal bounty.

Tomorrow and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, the expert floral designers at Wilson Farm will be offering free customer demos on how to create "easy, gorgeous arrangements with flowers, pumpkins, even veggies," according to their Facebook page.

Bring the kids for a chance to visit Wilson Farm's resident llama, Belle, plus a gaggle of hens and roosters. Who knows: you just might bump into Lynne Wilson herself and be able to pick her brain about urban farming while you're in the neighborhood.

Wilson Farm, 10 Pleasant Street Lexington, MA 02421 (just off Route 2 West). More at WilsonFarm.com.

Football season is in full swing, which means weekends are for setting out serious spreads of food for friends and family and wearing stretchy pants in front of the TV. In with the cold weather and out with the calorie counting!

If you pay attention to food trends or spend any time on Pinterest, then you've probably heard about the hottest thing for game day since Buffalo chicken dip: "Totchos," or tater tot nachos.

Union Square Main Streets & Linda Skuchak

The Italians have Nutella, and Bostonians have Fluff. A regular sight in New England lunchboxes, Marshmallow Fluff was invented by Archibald Query in Somerville's Union Square nearly 100 years ago. The annual Fluff Fest pays homage to invention and creation surrounding our local spread, and you can get in on the action. Plan to take the grand prize (a private tour of the Fluff factory!) and bragging rights by entering the Fluff Cooking Contest.

Before & After: NH native turns Savenor's trash into trendy DIY pallet desk

In these new post-downturn, eco-obsessed times, modern design is as inspired by reuse and refuse as it is by a simpler, industrial age gone by — when fortunes were made from natural resources and people worked with their hands instead of their handheld devices. When waste, rather than excess, was the ultimate luxury.

Local advertising professional, motorcyclist, photographer & avid DIY-er Caleb Hutchings created this textural, industrial-modern table as an oasis for contemplation and creativity in his Allston apartment, using scrap wood from pallets found at his side job at Savenor's Market in Cambridge. Here's how he did it.

Does looking at Pinterest make you want to throw fabulous events where all your friends "ooh" and "ahh" over your super cute, super special touches? Well, Erica Domesek, founder of P.S.-I made this... has a new book that's centered around that exact idea... except, there's no Pinterest Fails in sight. P.S.-You're Invited... has more than 40 projects covering fashion, décor, and entertaining with signature step-by-step instructions that are sure to guarantee your after looks just as fab as Erica's.

One of the first projects I plan on completing is this chic turban headband. For us ladies with heads that just don't hold scarves — no matter how many bobby pins used, I can't wait to rock this beachy glam look.
