Berklee's Perfect Pitch competition hits the right notes
After rehearsing and perfecting their songs and performances over the past month, 16 Berklee College of Music students took the stage at The Middle East on Tuesday night, Dec. 6, to vie for the grand prize in the student-run Perfect Pitch competition.
Judges Prince Charles Alexander, Ronald Allen, Eric Beall, and Paul Kolderie named Jaime Woods the winner for her performance of “Sweet Sweet Baby,” written by Grace Kelly. Woods and her team received studio time to record the winning song.
“Whenever she sings, she immediately gets into it,” said Woods’ producer, David Pramik. “I can’t tell if it’s fake or not, but really, I don’t care. [She] makes it exciting and interesting.”
Melanie Donnelly and Emily Smith came in second place with their performance of “Naked Heart,” written by Jesse Sanders and Smith; Dave Vives, who sang “Marionette” by Peter Nappi and Tim Degroww, placed third.
"I couldn't be happier with the outcome of the show. The audience really got into it, and the judges’ decision came down to half a point between the top three!” said concert manager Kayleigh Mill. “The winners did a phenomenal job, but I felt that every performance was up to the high Perfect Pitch standards.”
The competition will be held again in the spring semester.
