December 17, 2007-- Actress Rebecca Field Chat

Normal View Title
Rebecca_Field: Hello everyone!!! This is Rebecca Field from "October Road", sitting in the beautiful and snowy state of Massachusetts (very cold here!!!). Just logging on, look forward to chatting with you all this afternoon!
Julia__Guest_: What is the best thing to turn to (besides food)? I can't seem to be deterred by the guilt that I know I will feel after.
Rebecca_Field: Hey Julia,
Rebecca_Field: thanks for the question. Unfortunately, I am not a professional or really equipped to answer this kind of question, but the group I'm working with MEDA are wonderful and could absolutely give you some great thoughts, tips, etc...617-558-1881 or check them out online first www.medainc.org. Keep being your wonderful self!! Happy Holidays, Rebecca ;0)
Bobbie__Guest_: What is your personal experience with eating disorders?
Rebecca_Field: Hey Bobbie,
Rebecca_Field: I don't have any diagnosed eating disorder, but have certainly always had an interesting relationship with food. I wanted to get involved with MEDA, because Media certainly influences the way the people of the world think they should look, feel, behave, dress and I thought with our epidemic of eating disorders and a disordered way of thinking about our bodies in this country that perhaps we could make a difference and make some changes. Hope that answers your question.
Diana__Guest_: How are you doing, Rebecca?
Rebecca_Field: Hey Diana, I'm doing really great, how about you? It's cold here in MASS, but I am loving the snow! Hope you're well, happy Holidays to you!
kaytee__Guest_: Hi Rebecca! How nervous were you to lock lips on Camera?
Rebecca_Field: Hey Kaytee....wow, good question....um, VERY nervous! Until this show, I hadn't had to lock lips in acting before, so it was nerve racking, but Geoff, who plays Eddie is such a great person, so fun, that he made it easy!
big_fan__Guest_: your hot your not that big do eat alot
Rebecca_Field: WOW...thanks! I didn't catch the last part, but thanks for the compliment.
octfan__Guest_: hi rebecca -- thanks for chatting! is it weird to film on the set of a fake small town in mass when you're from a quaint small town in mass? do you think that the show does a good job portraying a small new england town?
Rebecca_Field: Hey...I'm so excited to be here chatting, so thanks for logging on and taking the time! It's surreal to be on a show about a small town in Mass, seeing as that's where I grew up for sure!! I do think the show does a great job of portraying a small New England town! One of our creators is from a small town in Mass, and another one spent a lot of his time growing up in his families summer home in Mass too, so they have a lot of first hand experience. Nothing in the world could do small town life justice though, you have to be in one for sure, but they do the best I've ever seen anyone do!!!!
big_fan__Guest_: well i have to see the Dentist AT 3;45 so ill talk later bye bye
Rebecca_Field: Have a good dentist appt.....no cavities is what I'll hope for you!! Happy Holidays.
Diana__Guest_: You're taking such a courageous stand on weight/body image issues in Hollywood. Any response from your fellow actors?
Rebecca_Field: Thanks Diana! Well, I think it's just so important. My fellow cast members have been very supportive and think it's great, as they know as well as you or I that all people, no matter what, seem to have certain self image issues at one point or another in our lives.
Kathy__Guest_: A lot of people were happy with the emergence of Sara Ramirez on Grays Anatomy, as an example of a beautiful woman who is not a size 2. But then her character's husband cheats on her with a supermodel! I know you probably won't want to specifically address another ABC show, but in general are these the types of challenges you face?
Rebecca_Field: I see what you're saying about Sara's character on "Grey's", but I think in general with this show and with our show, they are simply showing real people/women in real life situations that transend looks/weight, etc...my character and 'Eddie' will certainly have obstacles to overcome along the way, but I don't think they have anything to do with weight or beauty. Just how 2 people manuever through the trials and tribulations of what it means to be in a relationship. I hope that answered your question. ;0)
Kathy__Guest_: America's Next Top Model has been criticized for its "lip service" to the plus-size model market. Do you think this is a missed opportunity?
Rebecca_Field: Um, I'm not sure, I will admitt that "ANTM" is a guilty pleasure of mine!! I know they've had plus-size models on there and they haven't seemed to make it that far in the competition....but I think I'd have to mull that one over a bit longer.
biscuit__Guest_: What can be done to to show support for someone with an eating disorder?
Rebecca_Field: I'm not an expert on eating disorders so I couldn't give you a specific answer to that, but the group I'm working with MEDA are amazing and have all of that information. you can call them 617-558-1881 or check their website for more information relating to that at: www.medainc.org
Meredith__Guest_: Were you as happy as I was to read about the study that says being fit is more important for long-term health than being thin? How much do you exercise?
Rebecca_Field: Yes, Meredith, I was, I've always struggled with my body image and have always been very active as well. I excersize about 4 times a week and it makes me feel great physically and mentally. I've always felt that healthy is more important than any numbers on a scale!
shareen__Guest_: Where did you get that beautiful, slimming coat you are wearing in the Globe picture?
Rebecca_Field: Hey Shareen....I love that coat...I got it from my friends Mom a couple years ago at TJ Maxx or Marshall's something like that....
shareen__Guest_: You are terrific in "October Road" .
Rebecca_Field: Ah...you're the best! Thanks so much for watching and being supportive of our show. We really love it and all have such passion for it, so we're just thrilled that people in America are watching and enjoying it as much as we do! Have a great Holiday!
oceandreamer__Guest_: Hi Rebecca
Rebecca_Field: Hi 'oceandreamer'...what goes on???
kaytee__Guest_: I have never been to LA but I can image that everyone looks like a barbie doll. Is it tough to not cave to fit the mold?
Rebecca_Field: There are lots of beautiful people of all walks of life, shapes and sizes in LA. I think at first, I was concerned about maybe having to 'fit a mold', but it didn't take long to realize, we are all special because of our differences and I just embraced what was beautiful and different about me.
oceandreamer__Guest_: Hi Rebecca-I just wanted to say congratulations on October Road. I was at Bridgewater State, and we took Acting for the Camera together.
Rebecca_Field: Hey...thanks for the congrats!!! Ah, good ole BSC! I loved that class....what's your name?
bzl__Guest_: Hi Rebecca! It's beezilthe1st from myspace (and nearby your hometown!) I have a question about eating disorders and your experience in Hollywood. Do you feel, based on you first hand knowledge, that there really is an extreme "requirement" for thinness among up and coming actors?
Rebecca_Field: I don't think from my experience that there is any requirment, as I'm a character actor and wouldn't go out for the same roles as some of the actors/actresses you're probably speaking about. I do think that Hollywood has made major strides in the last few years especially to portray great characters on TV, that are normal, regular men and women and for that I say 'way to go Hollywood'. I think there's always more changes to be made, more things to learn, and more growth in any arena, so hopefully I can be a small part of helping move that forward!
oceandreamer__Guest_: Amy.... I loved it too, but I was struggling with anorexia and missed a lot. Happily, I've been in recovery for almost 5 years.
Rebecca_Field: Hey Amy.....way to go! COngrats to you on your recovery!!! I wish you an amazing 2008 being the wonderful, beautiful you! And cheers to our days of acting for the camera at BSC!! ;0)
shareen__Guest_: My son said to me "Mom, I never hear you talking about dieting like my friends' Moms do. You seem to be comfortable with who you are." I answered him "Yes, I am". And that comes from a woman size 16/18 who is comfortable with who I am. Rebecca sounds like you have come to that place too! It is the best place to be!
Rebecca_Field: Hey Shareen....yes, I have! As long as we have our health, that's all that matters, so let's ring in the new year to being ourselves, our best healthy, confident selves!! Good for you! You're passing on a great thing to your son!!
oceandreamer__Guest_: Thanks! :)
Rebecca_Field: :0)...right back at ya!
shareen__Guest_: Rebecca, thanks for the chat. May you have continued good luck in your career.
Rebecca_Field: I really appreciate that Shareen!! Many thanks and Happy New year! ;0)
Rebecca_Field: Hey Guys, Just wanted to say a humongous thank you for logging on to chat with me! And more importantly for your great questions and support of "October Road". Hope you all have a wonderful, healthy, and Happy Holiday with your families and friends. Cheers to an amazing new year! Wishing you all good things in 2008.
Rebecca_Field: With Gratitude!
