“Hi! My name is Jimmy. I love playing soccer and baseball, and I learned to ski in one afternoon!’’

Jimmy is a bright, active 11-year-old who is always busy and on the go.

Described by his foster family as intelligent, well-behaved, and occasionally very silly, Jimmy gets along well with all his home’s members. Of Hispanic descent, he speaks English and Spanish. And among his many interests are sports, especially soccer and baseball (though skiing might be catching up). Jimmy is both athletic and a quick learner.

Jimmy also enjoys playing board and electronic games such as checkers, tic-tac-toe, and on Xbox.

School is another place where Jimmy succeeds. He is in the sixth grade and is well liked by both his teachers and his many friends. A child who has endured many losses, Jimmy is helped in addressing them by weekly therapy.

Jimmy is legally free for adoption and would fare best in a two-parent or male single-parent family that can give him the attention he deserves. He would also do his best with a family that allows him to participate in school and local sports programs and that will keep him physically active. Jimmy’s special wish is to have a family that would love him forever.

What does adoption cost?
It costs little or nothing to adopt a child from foster care. Unlike international or private adoptions, there is no adoption agency fee. There are also a number of free post-adoption support services available to families statewide, including support groups and respite care. Children with special needs who are adopted from the foster care system are eligible for ongoing financial and medical assistance after adoption. These children are also eligible for a tuition waiver to attend a Massachusetts state college or university.

To learn more about Jimmy, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have “a permanent place to call home.’’
