Fashion Week draws to a close with minimalism and luxury

NEW YORK – The party ended, and no one looked sad that it was over. After a marathon seven days, New York Fashion Week took a final gasp on Thursday as Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs showed signature collections. Here’s what caught our eye as the craziness began to subside.

Ralph Lauren

Lauren went back to 1960s Carnaby Street for his Spring/Summer 2014 collection. He drained the bold colors from the streetwear of swinging London to minimalist black and white, but kept the miniskirts, shifts, mod florals, and intricate patterns of the era. It was an interesting approach to a fashion movement that has already been revised and revamped in recent seasons (most notably by Anna Sui). The references were not subtle, but they were enjoyable.
