At spring runway shows, models flaunted the reverse French manicure. |
Contrasting colors are an eye-popping trend for spring, whether it's black with yellow, navy with white, or purple with gold. Now even nail technicians are cashing in on the trend. Behold the reverse French manicure.
The look is achieved when white polish is painted near the base of the nail and a darker color is painted on the tips. French manicures usually feature a sheer pink or peachy base color and white polish painted on the tip.
New York designer Tracy Reese flaunted the look at the spring runway shows when her models wore black tipped nails with an off-white half-moon shape above.
Demand for the unusual manicure is growing in Boston. Elizabeth Hughes, a nail technician at Salon Mario Russo on Newbury Street, said she's done a number of black and white reverse manicures, but people are also experimenting with bold yellows and purples with white polish at the base.
"Depending on your field, it's not that daring," said Hughes.
Lee-Ann Blair, owner of 30 Newbury Spa, said her shop has done a beige and dark brown reverse French manicure. "That was a strange one," she said. "I definitely think this will catch on with college students. There's a clientele out there for it." - SUZANNE C. RYAN![]()
