Lucky fans at Achilles Project

Style Spy goes to lots of fashion events around the city, but we don't usually bump into Red Sox owner John Henry and nightlife czar Ed Kane while we're there. But they were just two of the stylish types hobnobbing last week at a book party for "The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style" at the Achilles Project. There were also media folks, boutique owners, and aspiring fashionistas - all of whom mixed, mingled, and talked fashion as they flipped through the new style tome. Some chatted up the coauthors, Lucky magazine editor in chief Kim France and creative director Andrea Linett. Chef Michael Leviton served up delightful bite-size snacks for the occasion. Menu highlights included beef tataki, grilled Serrano ham flatbread, Stonington Maine peekytoe crab cakes, and butterscotch white chocolate blondies. Old school or new school? Old school and recent years . . . not the stuff in the middle.
What do you think about her recent divorce announcement? I think she has lived many lives and has started over and reinvented herself so many times. She'll be fine.
Any thoughts on her style? She has a rockin' body.

What are your favorite stores in Boston? Stel's, Stil, Dress, and LouisBoston.
Why do women need a style guide? I think it's key to know who you are and what works on you and what doesn't, and take some time to really figure out what your style is.
How would you describe your style? It's always evolving. It's something that's feminine, vintage-y, and slightly girly. I also wear a lot of vintage jewelry.
Where do you get the vintage jewels? It's all from my great-aunt. She collected tons of stuff.
What do you think about how people dress in Boston? I think people are more adventurous then they used to be. I feel like you can dress up when you want to dress up and people are really interested in fashion. It has changed over the past couple of years, especially with stores like this opening up. People feel less intimidated by fashion and by certain stores.

Is it from your store? No, this one is vintage.
Are you a big vintage shopper? Yes. I love vintage shopping.
Any good spots around here that you'd recommend? Eastern Trading Company, Oona's, and Bobby From Boston.
What are your destination shopping spots? Intermix, obviously. And for shoes, the Barneys in New York City and Bergdorf Goodman - all mainly for shoes. I'm a little obsessed with shoes.
What's the last pair you bought? The Stella McCartney boots that I'm wearing - I'm so obsessed. They are so comfortable and make me like 10 inches taller.

A fashion editor at Lucky; that explains the great look. Who are you wearing? The dress is by Zimmerman, an Australian label that I love. The shoes are Zara and the bag is Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti.
Did you fly in for this event? Yes. That, and to have dinner with my mom.
Where are you going? Scampo at the Liberty Hotel looks good. I think I'd like to check it out.
Do you have any other favorite spots in Boston? I love the Franklin Cafe, Estate, and East Coast Grill.
Do you watch "Project Runway"? No. My industry is a reality show and I have to tune it all out.
Do you watch any reality TV? No reality TV, but I do watch "Entourage" and I love PBS. I've gotta stay smart.

I love your dress, especially the ruffles, so chic and elegant. It's Robert Rodriguez from Nordstrom. I got it on sale last night. I love the ruffles. They make me think of Carrie Bradshaw.
Are you a big "Sex and the City" fan? Yes, huge. Who isn't? I'm so excited the movie is out on DVD.
Any other movies you're inspired by right now? I just saw "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" and really loved the music.
Have you read the Style Guide? I flipped through it. I love Lucky. It's such a great shopping guide, especially for people my age who maybe can't afford the things they see in Vogue.
Are you sad to be missing the "Project Runway" finale tonight? I'm recording it. I'm a huge fan. I interned at Michael Kors and became a huge fan while I was there.
Who should win? I like Korto.

You work here? So, you get to be surrounded by cool clothing all day. How do you resist the urge to buy? I don't. I spend all my money right where I make it.
Who are you wearing? A dress from Marni, a Fendi belt, Loeffler Randall shoes, and vintage Christian Lacroix earrings.
What are some of the pieces you bought for the store for spring? We picked up this line called Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair - it's clothing, not shoes. It's an amazing line out of Sweden.
Who are your favorite designers? Martin Margiela, Lanvin, and Opening Ceremony.

Why are you here tonight? I'm here with my wife, who owns a PR firm.
So I assume you don't read Lucky magazine? No, but my wife does.
Do you have any go-to men's style magazines? I like British GQ and American Details.
That's a great blazer, where is it from? It's vintage. The T-shirt is from Technical on Newbury Street, and the sneakers are from Adidas in New York.
Where are you and your wife off to after this? We're going to the new Sel de la Terre at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
What other local restaurants do you like? We like Scampo and Sorellina and all the restaurants in the South End, where we live.
