STYLE SPY
A new season blooms
Garden lovers flocked to the InterContinental Hotel Saturday night for the Blooms! benefit cocktail party. Amid towering vases of roses and passed canapes, the Bo Winiker Orchestracq/cq serenaded foliage fans, several of whom donned their colorful, springy best. (Truth be told, lots of partygoers wore basic black to the bash, which left Style Spy a bit deflated.) We chatted up some of the most stylish.

What do you think about the Chris Brown-Rihanna situation? I think that's unacceptable. She should get some support from her family and friends and walk away.
What's on your iPod? I'd probably say Coldplay. We went to their concert this fall in D.C.
Are you a big gardener? I definitely enjoy beautiful flowers. I don't personally have a garden but I appreciate them.
Pretty dress. Who's it by? It's Shoshanna. I bought it at Queen Bee on Newbury Street. I had a Diane von Furstenberg but I changed my mind at the last minute.
Do you have a favorite restaurant in town? Figs. Recently I've been getting the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It's not something you'd get on a diet, but it's too delicious to pass up.
Age: 35

Job: Graphic designer
What's your favorite flower? White tulip. Love white tulips and green hydrangeas.
Are you a big gardener? I would love to be but I don't have a garden. I love arrangements - clean, simple arrangements. My mom's in a garden club. I'm new here and [one of] the people I'm meeting here tonight, I think she's a florist.
What's on your iPod? Definitely Bon Jovi. Some U2. Coldplay. And jazz. I like jazz.
Did you just see U2 in Somerville? I didn't know about it till the next day!
Have you been following the Jon Stewart-Jim Cramer face-off? No, I missed all that. Write Jon Stewart is my father and I have no comment. No, actually say I was traveling abroad. That's true.
Who did your dress? Elie Tahari. I walked by it - I was not shopping - and I had to get it.

How did you get into the wine business? I'm from California, and that is where my passion for wine comes from. I grew up in Newport Beach, but we had a place in Lake Tahoe, so I was north and south.
What's the best movie you've seen recently? "The Wrestler." Mickey Rourke was amazing. It was so realistic and dark and very good. "Changeling" is also really good.
What's your favorite flower? I love gerber daisies - they're so bright. Orchids. And antique roses.
Do you have favorite restaurants or hangouts, other than Mooo? (Martz works there part-time.) I love O Ya, I love Sorellina, and I love Oishii.

I love your jacket. I saw that red all the way across the room. It's a Doncaster jacket that I've had for a number of years. Everything comes back.
Well you look very springy. I can't wait for spring. When it snowed [last] Monday, I gotta tell ya. . .
You must be a gardener. I'm a judge in the Garden Club of America and in the National Garden Clubs. Horticulture and arrangement. We're all flower geeks.
OK, so what's the one thing you most dislike about gardening? I guess weeds. Nobody likes weeds.
What's the best event you've been to recently? Oh, what was that show I saw at the Opera House? "Legally Blonde." The UPS guy was great in that. Also, I saw "Jersey Boys" in Chicago and I can't wait for it to come here.

You've got some fabulous accessories going on. Where are they from? The bracelet is from Powers Gallery in Acton. The pocketbook [shows the tag: Max Mayer]. The shoes I got on sale when Filene's was closing.
Best movie you've seen recently? I couldn't choose between "Slumdog [Millionaire]" and "Milk." My friend had an Oscar party, so I saw all the movies. Finally, I went with "Slumdog," but I almost went with "Milk." Sean Penn was so phenomenal. And then think back to "Mystic River," and then go back to the one when he was a kid. . .
"Fast Times at Ridgemont High." And "I Am Sam."
Unbelievable.
Favorite music? I like Sting, I like U2. I missed Bono at the Somerville Theatre but I did see Springsteen there. ![]()
