You could have picked anyone to make your wedding dress [for her recent nuptials with Red Sox co-owner John Henry]. Why did you go with local designer Michael De Paulo? I tried on dresses all over the place, and I really wanted a local designer. There’s so much talent in Boston. People have this reflex to go to New York, but I wanted somebody local to make it. I’ve worn a couple of his other dresses, and they’re just really unique pieces. They’re really couture and he has a great signature look. He was very excited.
How do you describe your style? I probably have two styles. One is for everyday and ball games. That’s jeans, heels, and some sort of interesting top. I try to go toward modern clothing. I like an edgy, rock ’n’ roll look. In a formal setting, I like to go with a more 1920s look if I can find it.
What is it about the 1920s that intrigues you? I love the symmetry. There’s a luxuriousness and a glamour to that style. It’s a very elegant look that I appreciate.
Are you a shopaholic? No, not at all. But I’m also not afraid to ask for advice. I get inspiration from other people. I’m sure you’ve seen the word “curator’’ thrown around. I think there are some great stores in Boston that have some great curators, like Alan Bilzerian. I’m not the person who can go and combine a shirt with something over-the-top from Paris and create a masterful look. But I trust other people to do a lot of that.
Aside from Alan Bilzarian, do you have other favorite shops in Boston? Serenella. I like Wish. I like Betty Riaz and Stil, and Alison [Barnard] in the North End at Twilight.
Do you have any style icons? Women who you look toward for inspiration? Queen Rania of Jordan. That’s something I aspire to. I’m not there yet. Her style is beautiful and interesting. It’s contemporary styling, but it’s all very classic. It’s a blend of really well-tailored, well-cut clothes that are still very flattering.
What are some of your favorite places to get a cocktail? I go to the Liberty Hotel. It’s a cool, stylish place. I hang out at Fenway Park. I also hang out in the North End. I lived in the North End for five years, and there are a number of places there that I just love. They have great food and great atmosphere. I also love Minibar. I haven’t been to the Beehive in a while, but I always have fun going there.![]()
