In your Facebook photo, you’re wearing a fabulous floppy orange beach hat. Are you a hat person? Definitely. I wear a beret all winter. My hair is short so I have to keep my head warm.
How would you describe your style? Nonconformist with a strong European influence. I grew up in Senegal and lived in France and London before moving here. I love colors. I’m very positive and upbeat and I always wear yellow in the winter. I’m not one to wear all black and gray. When it’s foggy, cold, and gloomy, a yellow sweater cheers you up and lifts your spirits.
What struck you about Boston style when you moved here? It’s a little bit European. American people aren’t known for their style, but when they have style, they really have it. When my family visits from Senegal, I take them downtown and to Copley Square where all the fashionistas are. They don’t expect it.
Where do you shop? I haven’t had time to shop lately. I go to Bloomingdale’s and Marshalls or Filene’s Basement. I’m a bargain hunter. I have to get my money’s worth.
Any great deals you want to brag about? I got some Tahari pumps that were $90 for $25 at the Basement last year. And a $600 Diane von Furstenberg dress for $80.
What’s your go-to everyday outfit? A blazer and pair of jeans. My mom always said the most chic piece in a woman’s wardrobe is a blazer. I have to wear suits to work, but I can put jeans on with the jacket after work and still look cute. A nice blazer that fits well is a key piece. I have a hook in the kitchen [at Terenga] where I hang my blazer. That way if I have to go out in the restaurant, I take off my chef’s outfit and put it on. Everyone thinks I cook in nice clothes.
Favorite designers?
I love Tahari, BCBG, and Theory. I have yet to buy something from one of these designers that doesn’t fit well.![]()
