Marie Galvin

Age: 42

Occupation: Milliner, owner of GALVIN-ized Headwear

Cher, Claire Danes , and Alicia Keys have all worn your creations. Any celebrities you’re dying to see in your hats?

Nicole Kidman has a timeless look. Juliette Lewis is fabulous. I’d love to do something edgy and rockstar with her. Oh, and I would love to do the hats for a Tim Burton movie. Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas’’ is one of my style icons.

Do you always wear a hat? Yes, and a lot of headbands and hatbands. It has to be my trademark, I can’t go out with something on my head. People probably wouldn’t recognize me without a hat. The only time I don’t wear one is when it’s a mad hot summer day.

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs? Nothing inspires me more than going home to Ireland. I’ll drive around and stop the car to get out and take pictures like a tourist. . . . I’m also into early Hollywood. Adrian did the costumes for over 250 movies like “The Women.’’ He was so original, so inspirational. And of course, I watch everything Cecil B. DeMille ever did.

Where do you shop? I like to shop in the building where my studio is located: 450 Harrison Ave. I get jewelry from Melle Finelli - we wear each other’s stuff. . . . I shop for special things and stuff from up-and-coming designers at SoWa Open Market. I love high-end craft stores. That’s how I like to shop; give me one-of-a kind any day. Oh, and I got nuts on eBay and Zappos.com. I love seeing the UPS man coming to my door.

Describe your personal style. I’m a bit of a recovering goth. For years, I’ve had this French Resistance meets Russian military look going on. I’m all about a trench coat and a great pair of boots, topped off with a hat. A trench coat is great for a woman’s wardrobe - it’s current every season. And I love vintage and the look of vintage coats.
