Greg Ivan Smith
Age: Timeless
Residence: Queens, NY
Profession: Filmmaker
Who are you wearing? I believe that this is Express Men. I got it at a discount bin for something like $3. I like it because it looks like strips of someone's grandmother's apron. And I'm wearing cheap white gap jeans and some Rockports.
How do you describe your style? I don't tend to describe my style.
Ok, say I forced you to describe it, how would you then describe it? Probably comfortable. I have no idea what to say. Comfortable chic? No, that's terrible. I'm not afraid of a tie. I don't dress up as much as I'd like to. I don't like to feel fat.
Words to live by. Is there a particular character from any film that you identify with style-wise? I'm also an actor, and I get cast a lot in period pieces, and I would like to think that Montgomery Clift would be my dream style. I rarely accomplish that, but that would be a good starting point.
Better Montgomery Clift that Montgomery Burns. Does Queens have a particular style? No, I live in Sunnyside Queens, and it's a big Irish community and Turkish community, and the mixing of the two is very interesting to me. There are a lot of Indian people and Latino people, it's an amalgam of culture clashes, which makes it unique in its diversity. I fit nowhere into that. Which is typical of the area.
Is there a film at the festival that you were most excited to see, other than your own? Today I saw "The Guitar," which I thought was very beautifully filmed. Tomorrow I'm seeing the women's shorts, which I'm very excited about.
