The Atkins Diet
The low-carb king, the late Dr. Robert Atkins, introduced this diet in the early 1970s and became one of the biggest-selling diet book authors of all time. Casting aside regard for calories, Atkins preached cutting down on the carbohydrates found in pastas and breads, and the sugars, even in some fruits, like bananas. Some considered his plan to be potentially fatal.
