The dress

I adore Narciso Rodriguez's Spring 2009 line, but I didn't love it on our new first lady last night. Normally perfectly put together, Michelle Obama looked like she was going to a cocktail party last night as opposed to her husband's victory speech. I'm not denying that she has great taste and always looks incredibly well put together, but this dress was a case of wrong frock/wrong place.

  1. Are you jealous of the dress or do you want the dress. she looked great to me. This world needs to come together instead of always pointing fingers at someone. My grandmother always said clean up your own door step and you won't have time to talk about anyone else ? ? ?

  1. EVERYBODY AS A DIFFERENT IN TASTE AND STYLE. I LIKED HER DRESS AND SHE DIDN'T WEAR THE DRESS FOR NO ONE BUT HER. AS LONG AS SHE LIKE THE DRESS THEN FORGET WHAT THE WORLD AS TO SAY.

  1. I thought Michelle wore the dress to compliment what her daughters were wearing.
Mothers do that kind of thing........ She has so much great character, the dress is
    obsolete to talk about!!!!

  1. I agree with Dixon Dixon. The dress was great for our next First Lady, adn she seemed comfortable in it. And she tied the colors of her two daughters together - one wearing black, the other red. I was a little shocked at first, but then thought - hey, new day, new year, new administration and why does the first lady have to look frumpy? This is a celebration - so go for it.

  1. I think Michelle Obama will make an excellent First Lady, people are already criticizing her. She has class, style and is well educated, I think she will be the first of her kind and an excellent roll model for working mothers and homemakers. This lady has it all, the whole package. I do not think she will waste her time worrying about what people think she is focused on her new job, her family and her country.

  1. I think she is trying too hard to look like "Jackie O" and its not happening. Better luck with the gala dress....

  1. i think she looked great -- i think she always looks great -- and i agree she will make a perfect first lady -- educated, beautiful, gracious, incredible role model for young women -- they actually are a beautiful looking family -- can't wait to see what kind of puppy they get -- i heard they are going to get a labrododdle -- nice big playful dog with a friendly personality -- goes well with the family

  1. Christopher are jealous that Ms. Obama pulled the dress off better than you ever could?

  1. I think the background colors didn't show the dress off to its best advantage. The red gave the appearance of flames consuming her.

I agree. Nice dress. Wrong place.

  1. She looked great. She is more cutting edge with her fashion choices that reflect her age and style. She is graceful and modern. I also think the coordination of her dress with her daughters was a great choice.

Don't hate on her fashion. With the state of our country, I agree, the last thing people should waste time on is being critical of what she wore on Election Night.

I am excited to see how her style evolves as the First LADY!

  1. I really like the dress and I love her sense of style. However it did not look that great with the sweater.

This dress did not do her justice.

  1. Angel-
What are you so angry about? Who is pointing fingers? He said that he thought the dress was the wrong choice for the event, coming from a woman who is usually impeccably dressed. Everyone in this thread is so defensive, trying to make everything into an attack. Get a grip.

  1. I love this dress! I think many people just don't like seeing a first lady (woo!) show some originality. It's not like she showed up in a dress with an extra sleeve or something. What is the issue? Besides, she's six feet tall and gorgeous, she can wear almost anything. I thought it was flattering.

I look forward to more beautiful dresses from our new first lady. I hope she isn't cowed into wearing the usual boring first lady drag. Who needs more sweater sets and pearls, anyway? DC can use some real style in the White House!

  1. I don't feel that this dress was appropriate for the occasion.
I also am not a big fan of the mid-level cross in the middle which made the outfit look like she was dressed in a maternity outfit.

  1. I think we should concetrate in our future not on michelle's dress, ok was not a ten. Let's give her a chance, and she could never try to be Jakie O, ISABELLA. FOR THE GALA SHE SHOULD WEAR PALE GOLD OR LAVANDER.

  1. I thought the little girls looked great in their outfits!

  1. Michelle Obama, like many well built women of her age, has a pair of hips. The cross-bow design of that dress contrived to make her look wider than she is. The dress would probably have looked stunning on her beautiful and very slender older daughter. With her natural good looks and charisma, I think that the future First Lady would be wise to stick with simpler is better.

  1. As always, Michelle Obama looks beautiful. She is first class all the way.
