I just read that sequin-and-lace czarina Vera Wang has cut her wedding gown prices 40-50 percent, due to the tough economic climate. Last year, her dress prices started at $5,500. Now the the lovely tiers of tulle will only set you back $3,600. Gee, thanks, VDubs.

As a bride-to-be, I am fully behind any event that gives brides an actual break. (Further proof? Read my columns.) That's why Design Hive Market's free "I-Do Indie"sale happening in Cambridge on Sunday, May 3, warms the cockles of my over-stressed heart.

Wedding-guests-to-be can stock up on attire and unique gifts for wedding season. (Brides: Keep an eye out for quirky bridesmaid gifts.) Photographer Darlene DeVita will be there with her "Kiss & Tell" photo booth and makeup artist Katrina Hess will be giving free makeovers. Paul Liberty Entertainment will provide the soundtrack — fingers crossed for Earth, Wind, and Fire, right?

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Maria Baldwin School.
