Lady Gaga-Sally LaPointe F12.jpeg Perhaps paying homage to the fact that she's in Massachusetts, Lady Gaga opted to wear a dress from Marblehead native Sally LaPointe as she launched her Born This Way Foundation at Harvard today. As you may recall in a story we ran last February, this isn't the first time that Gaga has opted for LaPointe. And since then, Gaga has worn the designer for a Canadian music awards show, and in her "Judas" music video. Gaga wore this black, floor-length dress which LaPointe debuted just weeks ago as part of her fall/winter 2012 collection.
In "Judas," Gaga wears LaPointe's custom gold ruffle dress.

In addition to Gaga donning LaPointe's clothes, her creations have been worn by musican LaRoux and former super model Iman. Will Gaga's decision to wear the dress help LaPointe's business? We got the designer on the phone to ask her.
“Yes. Definitely," LaPointe says from her New York studio. "People really respond to the whole celebrity aspect. Even more so that it’s at such a special event. Together it makes it even more special. Not only is this huge celebrity wearing my clothing, but clearly it’s an important event that a lot of people are paying attention to. “

For my full interview with LaPointe about Gaga, keep reading.

Q. Did you know that she would be wearing the dress?
A. She’s pulled from my collection a few times. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. It’s never specific for an event. They don’t really tell us until it happens. I was definitely not expecting it. It was a really cool surprise.

Q. I didn’t know that she had worn one of your dresses in the "Judas" video.
A. That was a custom piece, so I sort of knew what it was about. They lightly mentioned it. Of course you never know with these things until they happen. That was a big surprise too. But I knew a little more about that one.

Q. How were specific were they in the instruction for the "Judas" dress?
A. They gave me a few key words, and then I ran with it. Which is cool because it gives me a direction, but it’s not too specific.

Q. Have other celebrities picked up on wearing your clothes?
A. We’ve had some other musicians like LaRoux. Also, Amy Poehler, and Iman the supermodel.

Q. Do you think at some point Gaga will just hire you to become the creative director for House of Gaga?
A. I guess anything’s possible. It’s cool that she’s taken such a liking to it. And every time I see her it seems to fit her really well. So I think that’s something that’s really important. I just saw the image of her in the dress. She put it together quite nicely. She looks s like a true lady.
