Somewhere in between Fat Tuesday and the Academy Awards and coming down from New York Fashion Week high, we decided to pull in the reins and investigate the realm of liquid diets. While we're not recommending you indulge in a juice fast of your very own, we can't help but feel tempted by the maple syrup/cayenne pepper/lemon water that may or may not have been responsible for slimming the hourglass figure of Beyonce before her 2006 "Dreamgirls" debut.

Strapped for cash, commodities, and calories, we scoffed -- rather gasped -- at the staggering price tags for the BluePrintCleanse and Revita Cleanse but may take a frugal gander with a fruity green smoothie recipe sent to us by Food Coach NYC founder Dana James.

Green smoothie

1 heaping scoop vegan protein powder
8 ounces Vita Coco Pure (plain) coconut water
2 large fistfuls of spinach leaves (leave stems)
½ cup frozen raspberries
pinch of cinnamon
½ cup ice

Liquify the spinach in a juicer
Pour spinach juice into blender with other ingredients except cinnamon
Blend for 1 minute
Pour into glass, dust with cinnamon, and serve immediately

She also recommends a morning detox drink of "hot lemon water with ginger and pinch of cayenne pepper," which we've taken as a sign from the sequined-gown-clad gods of awards season to stock up our spice cabinet.

Would you do a liquid cleanse? Have you tried BPC or Revita or another designer juice diet? Do you have a stellar smoothie recipe of your own? Share you thoughts in the comments.
