Dear people of America. We’re missing out. The UK’s Royal Ascot horse races look like a jolly good time. And there are hats! Oh, there are hats. Ton of them.

Last year, literal fashion police patrolled the gates at the annual Berkshire sporting event, to assure no party hopper would hobnob without appropriate headgear, and this year, it looks like folks are finally following the rules. Finally!

The races kicked off in the small English town of Ascot on June 18 and run through June 22. Here are some of our favorite hats spotted at Royal Ascot’s famed Ladies Day (the third day of races), when the hat competition is said to get hot and heavy. Literally heavy in same cases. You’ll see what we mean...

Said to be “inspired by the forthcoming royal baby,” we see a diaper cake.

We once had a kite that looked like this but then it got away — and looks like it finally landed.

This is actually really impressive and typically we’d leave something so intricate alone. Kind of like a hornet’s nest — which this resembles.

Everyone wanted in on this hat party, even the pups.

We call this one: “I tried.”

To be honest, it appears that this woman is just attempting to keep her hat safe from the rain. But we also don’t like to make too many assumptions.

“Hey. I really like your hat.”
