Forbidden fruits and other considerations

US Customs and Border Protection generally doesn't allow any fresh food or meats into the country. Here is a sample of forbidden and acceptable items.

Fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants

Meat and animal products

Live animals and birds

Generally approved foods
Breads, cakes, cookies, other baked goods, candies

Cannonball fruit

Coffee (roasted beans only)

Fish

Fruits (canned)

Garlic cloves (peeled)

Matsutake mushrooms

Nuts (roasted only)

Palm hearts (peeled)

Sauces (canned or processed)

Seaweed

Tamarind bean pod

Truffles

Vegetables (canned or processed)

Water chestnuts

Many products, including vegetables and fruits, grown in Canada or Mexico are allowed to enter the United States. Seed potatoes from Canada currently require a permit. From Mexico, stone fruits, apples, mangoes, oranges, guavas, sapote, cherimoya, and sweet limes require a permit. - DARRY MADDEN
