Wondering what Ricky Gervais is doing while he's in town shooting a movie? Read his blog. The great British comedian, who's busy directing "This Side of the Truth" in Lowell, is writing regularly on RickyGervais.com, and his posts are pretty entertaining. "I went to bed last night at 8:45 p.m. I set two alarm clocks. I didn't need either of them. I got up at 6 a.m. and had an egg. It was like something from 'Rocky.' I left out the run and all the punching meat and stuff and went to the set." Unlike so many celebs who blog, Gervais is both smart and funny. Of a recent dinner with Christopher Guest, the "Spinal Tap" star who's one of his comic heroes, Gervais wrote: "We went to arguably the best restaurant in Boston, L'Espalier. It is very posh but luckily serves chicken. (I don't like things that are still bleeding or have too many legs or live in shells.) . . . Chris flew back to LA ridiculously early and I'm so grateful to him for coming all that way for his amazing cameo." "This Side of the Truth" stars Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, and Rob Lowe.

Who were those masked fans?
The great Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers was the center of attention at DJ's at the Garden last night as fans gathered to root on the black-and-gold, many of them wearing replicas of the mask Cheevers made famous in the early '70s. In solidarity with the team, DJ's at the Garden wasn't selling Canadian beer last night.

A local in 'Loser' finals
Congrats to Dartmouth dude Mark Kruger for making it to the finale of "The Biggest Loser" last night. Kruger dropped more than 100 pounds since stepping on the scale in the season premiere. He has bragging rights over his brother Jay, who was also on the show but got the boot before the finale.

He’s at Whit’s end
If you're waiting for Bravo to release "Being Bobby Brown" on DVD, don't hold your breath. Word is Whitney Houston is refusing to sign on the dotted line, which is preventing the cable network from releasing the DVD. That's not sitting well with the Roxbury-bred Brown, who tells In Touch magazine: "There's a lot of money to be made, but, because she won't cooperate, we'll never see it. I have a serious problem with that because it affects my income." Serious money? Perhaps the worst reality TV show ever - and that's saying something - "Being Bobby Brown" was canceled after one season.

Cursed jersey, plus one to wear
Whoever ends up paying big money for the tattered David Ortiz jersey that was buried beneath the new Yankee Stadium will get a twofer. At a gathering this week of the Friends of Dana-Farber, Stacey Lucchino , wife of Sox CEO Larry Lucchino, said the eventual high bidder will get a brand new Big Papi jersey to go along with the one unearthed over the weekend. The Yanks are graciously giving the worse-for-wear jersey to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which will auction it off at some point. The Friends of Dana-Farber met at Valentino Boutique on Newbury Street to plan their annual gala, which will be held May 30 at the Citi Wang Theatre.

Tall tales
Former Celtics star Robert Parish was at the Borders at Downtown Crossing yesterday signing copies of the new multi-DVD set "Boston Celtics 1985-86." A member of the Big Three, the Chief is featured extensively in the DVD about the C's last championship season.

Heppner joins BSO
The Boston Symphony Orchestra announced yesterday that tenor Ben Heppner will share the stage with mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter when the BSO performs Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" tomorrow and Friday. Heppner is replacing Johan Botha, who's withdrawn due to illness. Ironically, Heppner recently had his own health issues while performing with the Metropolitan Opera - he was replaced by tenor Gary Lehman - a set of performances that saw soprano Deborah Voigt also succumb to a stomach virus. . . . Jeff Tweedy at Tanglewood? It's true. Wilco will be gigging at the BSO's summer home Aug. 12 with likely opener Andrew Bird.

Here and there
Also in town shooting "This Side of the Truth," comedian Louis C.K. stopped by the Comedy Connection to do a little stand-up the other night. The Newton native has a new film, "Diminished Capacity," opening this summer. . . . Actors Keir O'Donnell and Stephen Rannazzisi, both in Boston filming the Kevin James caper formerly titled "Mall Cop," were at Game On! the other night watching the BoSox. The movie, which has been shooting at the Burlington Mall, is, for now, being called "Untitled Kevin James Comedy." Clever . . . Martin Scorsese will speak this weekend at the Ivy Film Festival at Brown, where the director's new Rolling Stones documentary "Shine a Light" is screening.

Wahlberg: New Kids click
If he could do it over again, Donnie Wahlberg might not announce the New Kids on the Block reunion on the "Today" show. Writing on NKOTB's blog, the boy bander says he's ambivalent about the way it went down. "I do have mixed feelings about appearing on the show," writes Wahlberg. "Obviously, the response was great and I am happy for that. I was, however, very frustrated that we could not lead with our new music first!!! We've been working so hard on this album and I am personally so proud of what we've done." Wahlberg and his bandmates Joe McIntyre, Jordan and Jonathan Knight, and Danny Wood, appeared on "Today" April 4 to announce they're getting back together for the first time in 14 years. Writes Walhberg: "To all the folks who are not fans but maybe curious - and even to the skeptics - this album will be well worth the wait. So for now, you will not see me again until you have heard NEW MUSIC!!!!" If you're wondering about the music, a new tune called "Click, Click, Click" leaked onto the 'Net yesterday. Check it out.
