Sushi from Market Basket? Believe it.

The last thing I expected to see at my local Market Basket was a sushi case. Come on now, canned goods with a long shelf life are fine at this low-price grocery store, but raw fish? My skeptical self had to check it out. And I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi is beautiful, and a chef prepares it daily right behind the display case. I asked for a dinner suggestion, and he made me my very own tray of yummy maki rolls with cucumber, avocado, salmon, and rice. I couldn't wait to get home.

The store offers lots of rolls - California, vegetable caterpillar, avocado cucumber, grilled salmon, and spicy tuna - as well as salmon sashimi, tuna and salmon nigiri, tuna tataki, and spicy shrimp tempura. And the price is right: $4.95-$12.95 for eight- to 10-piece trays.

I now have sushi every Wednesday after grocery shopping, made especially for me by my very own sushi chef.
