Comfort fries

If you are a lover of french fries (and really, who isn't?) you probably think you have tried the crunchy, golden potatoes in every way possible. Ketchup. Blue cheese. Mayonnaise. Vinegar. You've done it all. Well, how about cheddar cheese. And gravy. No? Well then you are missing out. Montreal French Fries has brought poutine - a Canadian comfort food - all the way down to West Bridgewater so you won't need your passport to enjoy it. Poutine is a serving of thin fries smothered in a warm bath of vegetable gravy and topped with little chunks of cheddar cheese curd. The key to the dish is that the curd melts and gets soft while the fries don't - and Montreal French Fries gets both just right. The combination of the cheese and vegetable gravy makes for a rich flavor. And if that isn't quite rich enough for you there is the poutine deluxe made with grilled onions and hamburger (and cheese curd if you ask). Merci beaucoup! Montreal French Fries, 757 West Center St. (Route 106), West Bridgewater, 508-588-3743. - TIM FLYNN

Correction: Because of a reporting error, a Short Order item in the July 30 Food section misstated the type of gravy that is in the poutine at Montreal French Fries in West Bridgewater. It is a vegetable gravy.
