'Virgin' actor charged
An actor who appeared in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in California after his former girlfriend was stabbed more than 20 times, authorities said yesterday. Shelley Malil, 43, was taken into custody late Monday as he left a train in Oceanside. He remained in custody on $2 million bail; his arraignment was scheduled for today. Authorities confirmed the victim's identity as Kendra Beebe. According to her Facebook page, she's a 35-year-old mother of two who works as an insurance broker. She was listed in critical condition Monday. There was no update yesterday.(AP)
Hudgens, dad sued
A music producer has sued Vanessa Hudgens (inset) for $5 million, claiming the actress and her father have repeatedly violated a contract and failed to pay him his share of her earnings. Hudgens, one of the stars of Disney's successful "High School Musical" series, entered into an agreement with producer Johnny Vieira when she was still a minor, the lawsuit states. Vieira claims Hudgens and her father, Greg, sued to get out of the agreement, but have also failed to abide by settlement terms. (AP)
Stroke killed Hayes
Isaac Hayes apparently died of a stroke. The deep-voiced soul singer died Sunday after he was found unconscious at his Memphis residence. No autopsy was performed, but paperwork filed by Hayes's family physician, Dr. David Kraus, lists the cause of death as a stroke, a sheriff's spokesman said. Kraus told investigators that he had been treating Hayes, 65, for high blood pressure. Family members found Hayes lying on the floor of his home beside a treadmill that was still switched on. (AP)
