Chapman remorseful

John Lennon's killer told parole officials during his latest unsuccessful bid for release from prison that he's ashamed and sorry for gunning down the former Beatle nearly three decades ago. Mark David Chapman was interviewed by the parole board for a fifth time Aug. 12 and was immediately denied release. A transcript of the hearing was made public yesterday. "I recognized that that 25-year-old man, I don't think he really appreciated the life that he was taking, that this was a human being," Chapman said. "I feel now at 53 I have grown into a deeper understanding of what a human life is." The decision means he'll remain in New York's Attica Correctional Facility at least two more years. (AP)

Lawyers sue Brown
Bobby Brown is back in court; this time, he's being sued by his former divorce attorneys, Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon & Jamra, for $90,217 in fees relating to his divorce from Whitney Houston. The suit, filed Aug. 15 in Los Angeles Superior Court and posted at E! Online, claims Brown has avoided arbitration and ignored bills, and seeks a court order forcing the singer to settle his fees through binding arbitration with the LA or Beverly Hills bar association.

Report: Taylor home
Elizabeth Taylor is "at home and happy" following a recent stay in a Los Angeles hospital, People.com reported yesterday. A representative for Taylor, 76, could not confirm the report and said only that there were no updates beyond a statement released July 31, when she was hospitalized. (Reuters)

Glitter leaves Vietnam
Authorities freed British glam rocker Gary Glitter from prison in Vietnam yesterday, sending the convicted child molester into an uncertain future after nearly three years in jail. Guards transported Glitter, 64, to the Ho Chi Minh City airport, where he boarded a plane to Bangkok. (AP)

Allen's CD in limbo
Lily Allen expressed confusion over the release of her second album amid EMI label changes. "Alright, Still," is due at some point later this year or early 2009. "It's been finished for a while now. I don't really know what's going on with it," she said in a MySpace posting. "The record industry is a very political place at the moment and I'm on EMI Records." (Billboard)

Fonzie statue unveiled
