Old mix learns a new trick

General Mills launched Bisquick Baking Mix in 1931, and generations of women kept a box on the pantry shelf to make biscuits, pancakes, and other family favorites. The new Gluten Free Bisquick ($3.89 for a 16-ounce box), yields nine pancakes (gummy); five biscuits (light inside, crunchy outside); and barely enough for Impossibly Easy French Apple Pie, a recipe on www.bisquick.com/glutenfree, which isn’t a pie at all, but rather a cake layered with apples and a crumb topping (good and clever).
