Not that anyone needs an excuse to visit the Pine Tree State, but if you do, there's this: Maine Beer Week starts Thursday and runs through Nov. 17. The week includes special beer dinners, tastings, tap takeovers, and other events. The big highlight: a Maine tap takeover at The Great Lost Bear in Portland. I used to live a couple of miles from The Great Lost Bear, and let me tell you this: It's one of the coolest pubs I've ever visited, with 69 beers on draught and pretty good food, to boot. Every one of its taps will be pouring brews from 21 Maine breweries on Nov. 17. There are also events at Novare Res Bier Cafe in the Old Port, an outstanding beer bar with a particular focus on Belgian ales. Friday evening, Novare Res will feature ales from the Maine Beer CoA full schedule for Maine Beer Week is here.
