I'm sure this won't be the only March Madness-style beer gimmick in town, but it's the first one I've heard about this year, so here you go: Ducali Pizzeria & Bar is holding a "Beer Bracket" tournament in which customers can vote for their favorite beer. There will be four rounds of four beers each, followed by a "final four." How it works: Customers who order a beer flight -- samples of the four beers -- get ballots and vote for their favorite. The beer that ultimately wins will be put on tap at Ducali for the rest of 2012. The event runs March 4 to April 7.

The contenders:

Boston (March 4):
-- Harpoon Munich Dark (Munich dunkel lager)
-- Samuel Adams Whitewater IPA (American IPA)
-- Pretty Things Baby Tree (quadrupel)
-- Notch Session Pils (Czech pilsner)

East (March 11-17):
-- Brooklyn Pale Ale (English pale ale)
-- Ommegang Witte, (witbier)
-- Victory Golden Monkey, (tripel)
-- Dogfish Head 60 IPA (American IPA)

West (March 18-24):
-- Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' (American pale wheat ale)
-- Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar (American brown ale)
-- Left Hand Milk Stout (milk stout)
-- Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale (American strong ale)

International (March 25-31):
-- Peroni Nastro Azzuro (European pale lager from Italy)
-- Moretti La Rossa (doppelbock from Italy)
-- Delirium Tremens (Belgian strong pale ale)
-- Unibroue Trois Pistoles (Belgian strong dark ale from Canada)

The Final Four (April 1-7) will feature the winner from each bracket.
