Drink Craft Beer Summerfest

Looking for a beer festival to go to next weekend? The Drink Craft Beer Summerfest: A Celebration of Farmhouse Ale, returns to Boston on July 12 and 13.

I've attended three Drink Craft Beer festivals so far and have enjoyed each one. The festivals are unique because they feature lots of local beer, much of it poured by the brewers themselves. It's a good way to start up a conversation with some really knowledgeable, really passionate people.

This year's festival takes place at Space 57 in the Revere Hotel (200 Stuart St., Boston, near the Common) next Friday and Saturday. A celebration of the saison style, the festival will showcase 25 New England brewers and more than 80 beers. Saisons are one of my favorite beer styles. They are complex enough to pair well with food but are light enough for the hot weather. I remember Cambridge Brewing Company brewer Will Myers bringing something like six saisons to last year's festival, and I remember very little after that.

The official fest beer is being made by local favorite, Everett-based Night Shift Brewing in collaboration with Portland, Maine fermentation innovators Urban Farm Fermentory. In typical Night Shift fashion, they're thinking way outside the box and have created a craft beer take on an Arnold Palmer. Food will be provided by local trucks Roxy's Grilled Cheese, The Chicken & Rice Guys, Union Square Doughnuts, Grillo's Pickles, and Q's Nuts.

You can find ticket information for both the Friday and Saturday sessions at the festival's official website.
