Help Save Villa Mexico!
For the past five years Julie King has been serving up authentic Mexican cuisine from inside her small cafe on Beacon Hill. Deemed as having one of the best burritos in Boston on more than a few occasions, Villa Mexico isn't just a quick fix to fill your cravings for Mexican food, it's a neighborhood staple. Over the years they've accumulated a crowd of regulars that are better referred to as "family".
Located inside the gas station - yes, gas station - at 269 Cambridge Street, Villa Mexico and it's current home will be demolished in January as the city plans to build a commercial building in it's place come the new year. For the last few months they have been fighting for their right to continue serving great quality food in a neighborhood they love, but the battle hasn't been easy. Some of the residents in the area have denied Julie's request for relocation to a once-residential brownstone on 12 Grove Street (which is currently under construction) in hopes of keeping the area strictly residential.
Although the relocation process has been difficult, the King family has been positive and proactive throughout the entire ordeal. If you've ever been to the small cafe, then you know how authentic and genuine it is; from the people to the food, which is filled with love and executed with care. If you haven't been to Villa Mexico, you have a few more weeks to do so and fall in love with the establishment for yourself.
Unfortaunetly the future of the cafe still remains uncertain, but you can help them! They are currently working to raise money to help pay for the relocation of the cafe along with the necessary permits and licensing they will need for the new location. So far they are more than halfway to their goal. Whether you have a lot or just a little to give, you can help the family-run business by donating money on Kickstarter, where you can also find a full story of their struggle to stay on Beacon Hill and keep serving their favorite food from their homeland.
