MIT students have returned to the city for their Spring semester and they are kicking off 2012 with hummus. Yup, hummus. Jan. 19 is the 6th annual MIT Hummus Experience where students and professors host an event featuring their favorite Middle Eastern snack. The main event is a Taste-Off at which participants create an original hummus flavor and compete for the best and most unique. They tend to go all out; last year the winning variety was miso soup flavored hummus. Cedar's hummus will actually produce a limited batch of the winning flavor after the event.
There will also be samples and goodies from local brands and restaurants (think: Tribe, Cedars, Sabra, and Rami’s restaurant in Brookline). And in true MIT fashion, there will be various math and science competitions involving chick peas. Last year attendees had to guess the number of chick peas in a container. The winner (who won a year's supply of Tribe hummus) used a tape measure, the volume of the container, and a calculation of the thickness of the container to find the answer, which he got almost exactly correct.
Stop by Building 10 (Bush Room) at 12pm for the free event. There's also a 'Make You Own Hummus' event tonight at 7pm to lead up to the final Taste-Off on Jan. 19. RSVP by emailing email@example.com -- space is limited.
