Innovative New England Dishes at Nix's Mate
Named and inspired by a Boston Harbor Island, Nix's Mate opened its doors in the Hilton Hotel in FiDi earlier this year. The menu uses New England seasonal ingredients in classic dishes and adds a modern flare. The fresh new interior design is filled with natural light and earthy colors, giving the atmosphere a relaxed elegance, perfect for a hotel restaurant.
Here are some of the standout dishes:
This was by far the biggest hit of the evening, and the must-try dish at Nix's Mate. The unlikely combination of lobster, caramel and warm Vermont cheddar is out of this world.
Chef David Nevins (formerly of Neptune Oyster and Olives) has created some very memorable plates, and the cocktail list is good too. There were a few dishes on the menu such as the rock shrimp flatbread that didn't shine as much as others (see: maple butter), but overall Nix's Mate is definitely worth checking out, especially for the Lobster Caramel -- it's truly incredible.
