The chimney sweep finally came

And what, you're thinking, does this have to do with food? Well, in my small 100-year--old house, the only fireplace is in the dining room. Apparently, families who were just getting by had only one fire in the house. It was in the room where everyone ate, then spent the rest of the evening reading and knitting.
We didn't time this for a cold front, but it's been pretty wonderful to sit down with friends over hearty soups and stews in the warm light of a fire.
On the menu tonight: char-roasted fireplace sweet potatoes.
Are they ready yet?
