Globe trotting

Contributing Food section writer Debra Samuels is in Japan for a month and took a side trip to Korea. On the streets of Seoul, she found these fritters irresistible.

Yeasty hot cakes were filled with a cinnamon, sugar, and sesame-seed mixture. "I was so enamored with them, the vendor gave me the utensil used to make them," she wrote in an email.

She found out later that her Korean guide bought the cake maker from the vendor. One of these days, Deb will give us details of what her suitcase looks like after a trip to the Far East.
