James Beard Award nominees

They were announced today, and New England kind of got stiffed. Most of the regional names that appeared on the "long list" have been axed.

Christopher Myers, robbed

Christopher Myers, Oleana pastry chef Maura Kilpatrick, Sam Hayward of Fore Street in Portland, Hamersley's, Pigalle, Radius, Il Capriccio, Jim Koch of Sam Adams, Myers+Chang, and o ya were all names bandied about, but not one of them was actually nominated.

New Englanders now only make an appearance in the Best Chef: Northeast category. Those nominees are: Patrick Connolly (Radius), Rob Evans (Hugo's, Portland), Clark Frasier and Mark Gaier (Arrows, Ogunquit), Michael Leviton (Lumiere), and Marc Orfaly (Pigalle). Congrats, folks.

The potential Cantabrigian nominees, Tony Maws and Steve Johnson, were cut, as was Andy Husbands of Tremont 647. But perhaps no one was more robbed than Christopher Myers, eliminated in one form or another from the categories of outstanding restaurateur, outstanding service, and best new restaurant.
