James Hook & Co. destroyed by fire

James Hook & Co. was destroyed by a fire early this morning. The full story is here.
This is a loss. The family-run seafood business has always been a favorite source for high-quality lobsters, and eating one of their lobster rolls right there on the water one of Boston's quintessential urban summer experiences. But the loss isn't just about lobster: Hook has been in operation since 1925, one of those classic Boston establishments that keep disappearing and can't be replaced.
Here's hoping they'll rebuild, a nearly exact replica with whatever modern updates they always wished the old place had.

They HAVE to rebuild! James Hook is one of my favorite places in the world. The great golden lobster is a majestic landmark and an important slice of waterfront history.
I've been going there for years and have had the pleasure of working close enough to see the golden lobster from my office window.
They are the friendliest business you'll ever encounter and, even when they're bustling, they're happy to go out of their way to accommodate both customers and curious visitors. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the staff offer to take photos of awestruck tourists holding massive 30 pound lobsters. James Hook & Co. is a family that loves what they do, and that only adds to the pleasure of stopping by.
My warmest thoughts and heartiest wishes for a swift recovery go out to the family and everyone that mourns this sad event.
