My mother's day gift

This did not come from Victoria's Secret!

It's halibut, which is black on one side and white on the other (so it blends in if you're a larger fish on the bottom of the ocean looking up, or swimming on top and looking down). It's the largest flat fish in the Atlantic and my favorite.

For Mother's Day, I got a month of halibut. The gift, from my husband, includes a weekly run to our fish market, New Deal in East Cambridge, and later at home, he'll make it too.

I cashed in my first chit last Saturday. The thick slab of halibut, on the bone, was covered with a thin layer of sliced tomatoes and roasted in a hot oven. The flesh was so white and sweet. We also had fresh asparagus and small yellow potatoes dusted with parsley.

Can't wait for the second installment.
