One of these things is just like the other
Chick-fil-A's classic chicken sandwich:

Description: "A boneless breast of chicken seasoned to perfection, hand-breaded, pressure-cooked in peanut oil and served on a toasted, buttered bun with dill pickle chips. Also available with lettuce and tomato."
McDonald's brand new Southern Style Chicken Sandwich:

Description: "All hail, the perfect sandwich. So simple, so juicy, so perfectly seasoned, lightly breaded all white meat chicken topped with two pickles and served on an oh, so steamy buttery tasting bun."

There is no way the McDonald's chicken sandwich is as good as the original. First, they don't cook it in peanut oil. That makes a huge difference in the flavor. Second, no way the bun is as good, guarantee they will just put these on the same buns they use for the cheeseburgers. Third, McDonalds [EDITED:] stinks...
Chick-Fil-A hasn't anything to be worried about. The MickieDee's sandwich isn't bad at all but it doesn't have the Chick-Fil-A seasoning, crispiness and, most imporantly, those pickles! The Mickie biscuit used for the chix and biscuits is excellent, a really good biscuit, but the fowl still lacks that Chick-Fil-A pizzazzzz.
Ok. No taste comparison? Chik-fil-a is GREAT, how is Mcdoogles copy?
No, no, NO!
Chik-fil-A is a little slice of heaven on a bun, and the reason I've made twice-monthly trips to Burlington Mall ever since moving here 4 years ago from the home of Chik-fil-A, Atlanta.
I tried one of the Mc-Not-so-Fast chicken sandwiches, and they're not the same -- a pale substitute, acceptable only if you've never had, or can't get, the original.
It's like Coca-Cola and my grandmother's biscuits -- you can't replicate perfection.
They're obviously different. McDonald's puts the pickles on top of the chicken. Also, their bun is only butter-tasting.
As a native southerner, I can tell you they are NOT the same. But I can appreciate McDonald's efforts in bringing a taste of home up north. For a full-on southern experience, get the biscuit. Somehow it's better than the sandwich.
I tried the McD's one on free sandwich day.
Found some gristle in it. Some bloody gristle.
No thank you. First time I was in a fast food chain in years. Thanks to gristle, it'll be the last, too.
I tried the chicken sandwich and I was not impressed at all. The sandwich was hot but tasteless. The bun was unimpressive, and the only reason that I ate the sandwich was because I was hungry. One more question: why are the fries so salty? There's enough salt on them to season an entire batch of chicken.

The Recipe Box Project:
If you want to contribute a recipe to The Recipe Box Project, please write it below. Also tell us where you got it (package box, cookbook, mom, friend -- include the name). We're looking for the kinds of dishes that people grew up on, that were served at family suppers, that tell a story, that are typically New England, or that you brought with you from a far away place to New England. We will print one of the recipes in the Food section once a month. To ask any questions, write to Debra Samuels, who is overseeing this project, at recipebox@globe.com.
