An update on James Hook & Co.

In the course of reporting yesterday's story about the low price of lobsters, I spoke with the folks at James Hook & Co. The lobster company's landmark waterfront building was destroyed by fire at the end of May.
Co-owner/lobster slinger (his terminology) Eddie Hook had good news.
The company has been operating at 339 Northern Ave., the other end of the avenue from its old location, but a return to its original, and rightful, place is imminent. Hook reports things are moving ahead. The demolition of the old structure is finished; the site is clean and ready to be reoccupied. They're bringing in modular trailers, likely this weekend, and it looks as though retail business will return to the corner in the next couple of weeks. They plan to have the full line of seafood back on site.
Says Hook: "We're going to rebuild the lobster company, the store, and maybe some kind of eatery where people can stop, have a lobster product, and enjoy a place to sit down and get a good view of the harbor."
Sounds a lot like the old James Hook to me. I can practically taste the lobster roll already.

That is such great news! Out of the ashes comes renewal.
I was afraid that James Hook would move elsewhere, and who could blame them given the value of the land they sit on? However, Hook is the only reminder of Boston's waterfront working past, and it would be a shame if they were not there. The last thing the city needs along that stretch is another hotel or luxury condos.
Excellent! Good for them.
Sounds to me like Eddie Hook ought to be running the city. Talk about a guy getting it in gear. Tommy M. - take a lesson!
Great news... Good luck, Hooks!
How about a large porch or roof deck with a raw bar?
Good news! Glad they're back.
Glad things are looking up, and a sit-down restaurant sounds great.
I'll take James Hook & Co over ANY 5 star restaurant ANYWHERE! Glad to hear they are doing so well. Please let us know as soon as they are open for business!
Was thrilled to learn that you are rebuilding, and now I know that you are at 339 Northern Ave. ... so I can stop by and pick up some great fish etc. Congrats on going ahead with your plans and to all of the brothers.

Guess you lost the little decoration of the boat with the little fishermen in it. Oh well...
These guys are absolutely fantastic. I had to hunt around for the new location, but everything was same as always (service, smiles, thank you's). I tell all the tourists that a visit to Boston isn't complete until they go to James Hook. Can I lose weight on an all lobster diet? :-)
I can't wait to have a lobsta roll!
Hi! We were so sad about the fire. My husband grew up in the Boston area and then moved to St. Louis, and so many times we had lobsters shipped to St. Louis. My son living down the street from your place recently called me in San Diego and told me about the fire. His voice sounded as though a family member died. SOooo many times we were in your place, and the last time my husband and I were there from S.D. we bought lobsters and carried them to my son's apt. a few blocks down the street. Stopped to have a drink and they were teasing us about Hook lobsters crawling out of the box. Much FUN! Good luck!! We'll be back. Prayers go your way!!!
We are very glad to hear that you are making such positive progress. Hook Lobster has provided contributions to our favorite charity for cystic fibrosis, and holds a very special place in our hearts. We'll see you again soon!
Oysters, oysters, oysters!! More than one variety, on ice please?
Lots of love, prayers, and congratulations to the Hook family for hanging in there and knowing that the Boston waterfront will once again be thriving when their colorful building is standing where it should be.
