Today's plan: local clams!

Posted by Devra First July 5, 2008 09:34 AM

After last night's pyrotechnic extravaganza, it really, truly, officially feels like summer. Yeah, it's a little gray out and only in the mid-60s, but still. It's the perfect day for a bit of a drive, toward the sea and your favorite seafood shack. And now you can satisfy that longing for steamers and fried clams, as this year's red tide outbreak is on the wane.

North Shore flats are open again, meaning Ipswich clams are available. Plum Island reopened yesterday. A bunch of Cape Cod beds are also open. More beds are expected to get clearance within the coming weeks.

This year's red tide outbreak wasn't as bad as the one in 2005, but it still hurt the fishing industry, today's Globe story reports. So today, let's all pig out do our part for the local economy and spend a few clams on some clams.
