Tomato experiment

My $30 tomato plant -- bought at Wilson Farm, already planted and caged and ready for the heat -- isn't any bargain. In the last few weeks, every time it stormed, the little plant, with its plastic container, tipped over and tomatoes went rolling down the driveway.

Finally we replanted it last weekend into a pottery pot with much more soil, which it needed, then staked it (add $25 to the tomato bill).

Looks like it's almost time to pull out the olive oil and basil.

  1. I too succumbed to one of Wilson Farms' potted tomato plants. I'm disappointed to hear you had to put extra work and money into it.

    I haven't had the tipping-over-and-rolling-down-the-driveway scenario. My problem is the fat and greedy squirrel(s) that are munching on some still-green tomatoes, and removing nice ripe ones and chowing down on them right in front of me. What a nerve!
