Not In Season

In Season, a home delivery service for local produce and other foodstuffs, is going on hiatus.

Writes founder Chris Crandall (below) in an e-mail to subscribers:

"Before I got into this business I knew being a farmer was a difficult job but now I realize it is a 24-7 struggle that survives at the whim and mercy of old Mother Nature. Farmer John Nourse (the source of my favorite raspberries amongst other things) told me recently, 'If you get one good year out of every three or four, your should be happy'. Well there you go.

"So, here I sit, loving the business but knowing it needs more than I can give it at this point. In Season is going on hiatus, for now."

It's too bad, as it was a great service for busy people concerned with buying and eating locally. Perhaps it, or something like it, will start back up again when the local produce does.
