Free lunch today in Copley Square: POSTPONED
NOTE: The below has been postponed till tomorrow, May 15, due to the wind.
Jack and the Bean Bowl, a new food cart offering vegetarian and vegan bean-and-rice bowls, opened for business in Copley Square yesterday, right by the farmers' market site. For their grand opening, everything was free.
They're giving it away again today around noon until everything runs out. "We just want you to give us a try, risk free, in hopes that if you like it, you will be back," their website says.
The bowls include brown rice, black beans, avocado, cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream, and cilantro, topped with creamy lemon or smoky chipotle-lime sauce. You can leave off the dairy for a vegan bowl; the sauces are vegan.
In addition to the bean bowls, they're offering vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes frosted to order with coconut cream cheese, vanilla, or chocolate frosting. To drink, there are Italian sodas mixed to order.
I hope they can frost and mix fast! For free food, it could be a long line. If you get a bowl, let us know how it is.
