There is almost no good pizza in the Greater Boston area. I stick to Regina for a solid Italian American pizza experience, followed by Ernesto's and Galleria Umberto. Maria's in Gloucester is better than all of them. Everything else is just a waste of time, and increasingly more and more expensive. Twenty dollars for a pizza?
I lived in Bologna, Italy as a student and the Italian pizza was entirely different (and delicious!) but it is not fair to compare. The only good, authentic Italian pizza I ever had in the US was at a wonderful restaurant in Williamsburg/Brooklyn. It's called Fornino and as it turned out, the pizzaiolo was from Naples. The Italians really do it right.

Devra, I have to strongly disagree wih your review of Sushi Island in Wakefield within your affordable sushi link that you posted in the chat. I went there last Tuesday night based on that review, made my cousins come meet me from Gloucester, anyway, it was awful. Not sure if it was b/c it was a Tuesday night, there were two female sushi chefs at the front, the male owner that you raved about was nowhere in sight, but everything from the service to the apps (totally burnt veggie gyoza, black on bottom) to the sushi (the salmon/avo/cuke maki was literally disgusting, the salmon couldn't even be chewed within a reasonable time, had to spit it out), we also had the futomaki since you raved about it, it was gross, had pureed/mushy avo in it, yuck and a few other oily/limp/gross veggies. and it wasn't cheap, ended up spending over $100 with tip for three, I'm just surprised none of us got sick, it was that bad. I think you need to revisit that place. Sorry I couldn't make the chat, I would have put this on there to warn folks.

If you want to contribute a recipe to The Recipe Box Project, please
write it below. Also tell us where you got it (package box, cookbook,
mom, friend -- include the name). We're looking for the kinds of dishes
that people grew up on, that were served at family suppers, that tell a
story, that are typically New England, or that you brought with you from
a far away place to New England. We will print one of the recipes in
the Food section once a month. To ask any questions, write to Debra
