Two of my favorite restaurateurs are coming to Boston

This is Deirdre Heekin and Caleb Barber, owners of Osteria Pane e Salute in Woodstock, Vt., whom I wrote about a few years ago. Whenever I feel flush (not lately!), we get in the car and drive to Woodstock for dinner at Pane e Salute, staying overnight at The Woodstocker Inn, run by an English couple who used to be in book publishing.

Deirdre has written "Libation: A Bitter Alchemy," a memoir about making wine, spirits, and other drinks. She'll be in Boston on Friday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Institute of Contemporary Art to talk about her book and give a cooking demo (husband Caleb will be on hand to help with the food). It's part of a series called Talking Taste. The talk is free of charge with a museum admission.

In the years since I wrote about them, I've gotten to know both Deirdre and Caleb. To say they're charming might make you think you're about to meet two exceptional people. They're extraordinarily charming: bright, amusing, curious, articulate, full of good stories (and wow! what cooks). Pack that hall. You'll be delighted you did.
