Hometown girls go for the gold
Effie's Oatcakes, one of the best products to come along in years, and Effie's Corncakes, a newer offshoot, are finalists for the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade's innovation awards. The company is based in Hyde Park, owned by friends Joan MacIsaac and Irene Costello. Joan's mother, Effie MacLellan, was the inspiration for the oatcake.Gold winners of the Sofi awards will be announced in June at the annual Fancy Food Show in New York.
