Spiced Bourbon Flip
3 oz. bourbon
2 oz. heavy cream
1 large egg
1 oz. spiced simple syrup*
Shake bourbon, cream, egg, and simple syrup vigorously with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass
and dust with nutmeg.
* To make spiced simple syrup: Slowly dissolve 1 cup white sugar in ½ cup water in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Add 1 cinnamon stick, a few cardamom pods, a few crushed cloves, a few smashed juniper berries, and a star anise.
Stir until the sugar is completely melted, remove from heat. Let stand for 10-15 minutes and strain. Syrup will keep in the refrigerator for a few weeks.
Note: Theres no harm in caramelizing the sugar a bit before adding the water the deeper flavor goes well with the bourbon.
