Well, during a sluggish economy, friends go to friends' jewelry, cash-for-gold, or man cave parties to splurge on necklaces, earrings, spatulas, candles, and the like.
According to the Direct Selling Association, the number of independent sales representatives who held parties and sold door-to-door reached 15.1 million in 2008, up from 15 million in 2007.
