Walk the few steps to Taqueria Cancún (192 Sumner St., 617-567-4449), where the blaring ranchera music and Spanish-speaking wait staff signal you're not in Boston anymore. Order a couple of pupusas (large corn flour patties stuffed with cheese) and wash them down with a couple of Coronas: $12. Add tip: $2.50.
Weather permitting, take the 8-minute walk to Piers Park (walk past the T on Sumner Street, turn right on Orleans Street, then left on Marginal Street). The promenades offer a view of the Boston skyline that's hard to top. (Free, but gates close at 8 p.m.)
Walk back through Maverick Square and continue up Chelsea Street, turn left on Porter Street and end up at Ecco (107 Porter St., East Boston, 617-561-1112, www.eccoboston.com), Eastie's new-ish martini/tapas bar. Splurge on fancy drinks such as the Chocolate Cherry Martini or the Cilantro Gimlet: $17.90. Add tip: $2. Pictured: Michael Mingo and Sophia D'Urbano wind down with a drink.
